Who We Are
Registered as a 501(c)(3) public charity ("Brick Stars") is committed to improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities by providing a special needs ice hockey program designed to meet the needs of the developmentally challenged athlete with a range of developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome, Autism or any other learning delays that prevent these disabled players (ages 5 to adult) from participating in any other existing organizations, by maximizing their development, productivity and social action on and off the ice. In order for the Brick Stars to achieve this objective, our approach is to utilize the support services of Certified USA Hockey screened coaches, junior coaches and professional physical therapists teaching a wide range of skating ability from learn to skate to partaking in the game of "Special Hockey" in a fun filled atmosphere. Comprised of a dedicated Director and group of passionate volunteers who strongly portray the vision that developmentally challenged athletes can learn to play the fundamental game of "Special Hockey" and the initiative exits that "hockey is for Everyone".
Special Hockey is a discipline sanctioned by USA Hockey, the national governing body of Hockey in the United States. There are approximately 50 special hockey teams located in 30 cities throughout the United States as part of the American Special Hockey Association. The Brick Stars is a member of the American Special Hockey Association.
