2020-2021 SEASON UPDATE

COVID-19

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are doing well and safe.  Just wanted to give you an update on the information provided regarding this upcoming season and COVID-19.

Per our rink and surrounding rinks located in the State of NJ, below are some of the current protocols they have in place as per NJ State Mandate.

  • Ice Rinks are allowed to operate at 25% Capacity (per current NJ State Mandate)

  • Participants must arrive dressed to the rink  (less Skates, & Helmet)

  • Participants will be allowed to enter the rink 15 minutes prior to their ice time with MASK and practice 6 feet of social distancing

  • The 15 minutes are to be used to finish getting dressed (skates and helmets only)

  • Participants will need to exit quickly after their ice time to remove there skates & helmet and leave the rink (to allow for rink to clean)

  • Hockey Bags will not be allowed in the rink

  • No locker room use will be allowed

  • One guardian will be allowed in the rink however is preferred they do not enter unless needed

  • Daily screenings and waivers prior to ice time.

The above listed protocols, at this current time obviously makes it strenuous for our learn to skate/beginner program participants.  Since, we heavily rely on numerous volunteers to assist our kids, the current state mandates make it extremely difficult to meet the social distancing guidelines.

The public health and safety of all the particpants, volunteers, and coaches is important to us and we feel it is in the best interest of everyone involved to postpone your season.

This is a forever changing fluid situation in which we will be monitoring on a monthly basis and will revisit this at a future time.

As Per the Atlantic District:

Your child’s participation in any sport, and in particular, organized amateur hockey under the auspices of USA Hockey and the AAHA, is a personal choice for all parents and/or guardians. Exposure to COVID-19 is possible, even using the most extreme caution. Information regarding COVID-19 is constantly changing. We encourage our hockey families, coaches, officials, and volunteer and paid administrators to stay current on the latest developments and information on COVID-19.

Who We Are

Registered as a 501(c)(3) public charity ("Brick Stars") is committed to improving the quality of life of individuals with disabilities by providing a special needs ice hockey program designed to meet the needs of the developmentally challenged athlete with a range of developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome, Autism or any other learning delays that prevent these disabled players (ages 5 to adult) from participating in any other existing organizations, by maximizing their development, productivity and social action on and off the ice.  In order for the Brick Stars to achieve this objective, our approach is to utilize the support services of Certified USA Hockey screened coaches, junior coaches and professional physical therapists teaching a wide range of skating ability from learn to skate to partaking in the game of "Special Hockey" in a fun filled atmosphere.  Comprised of a dedicated Director and group of passionate volunteers who strongly portray the vision that developmentally challenged athletes can learn to play the fundamental game of "Special Hockey" and the initiative exits that "hockey is for Everyone".
Special Hockey is a discipline sanctioned by USA Hockey, the national governing body of Hockey in the United States.  There are approximately 50 special hockey teams located in 30 cities throughout the United States as part of the American Special Hockey Association.  The Brick Stars is a member of the American Special Hockey Association.
